about

Fatalists began with Hugo Race’s 2010 solo album, ‘Fatalists’, a unique mix of alt-country and electronica, recorded in Italy with Antonio Gramentieri, Diego Sapignoli, bassist Erik Van Loos and American violinist Vicki Brown. The band took on the name of Fatalists and toured extensively in Italy, consolidating their unique sound on 2011’s ‘We Never Had Control’. A 5-track EP ‘Orphans’ followed in 2014, along with tours in greater Europe and Australia. Hugo Race Fatalists’ 2016 release ’24 Hours to Nowhere’ is a pure distillation of the Fatalists sound – Hugo’s folk-inflected acoustic-based classic songwriting, arranged in collaboration with one of Italy’s most popular and influential instrumental bands, Sacri Cuori. Taken By The Dream (2019) takes a different direction with the departure of original guitarist Antonio Gramentieri and his replacement by Italian underground guitar legend Giovanni Ferrario.
"‘Hugo has released an avalanche of records, changed labels, changed musical styles, countries and post codes. His music is a constant work-in-progress; records based in the old blues mixed with a thousand experiments, electronica and dirty riffs. Discs that evoke dark atmospheres, like hard boiled crime-noir novels, where Hugo’s voice is deep and hard as rock. Discs capable of subverting traditions like very few can do, but never lacking respect. Records, in the end, that ferociously refute the logic of marketing, (Race’s) only objective is to continue his journey onwards.’"
